CHAPTER 7: THE
INTERNET, INTRANETS AND EXTRANETS
According to the reading, I think all these new
technological mechanisms, which have been described in the chapter 7, are
definitely tools that nowadays lead the world and each process carried out in different
areas. So, in regard to this, there are several benefits with the use of each
one of them.
Nowadays all this technology is available to each
person and any company in the world. These are technological tools that support
different processes. In other words, these are communications that allow the
fluent development of business and any type of social interaction in any
category.
Today the Internet, Intranets and the Extranets are
something like collections of content. But between each one of them, there are
also some differences. So, Internet is a computer networking system whereby a
person from any computer can access information from another computer and even
have a direct communication with other users on other computers elsewhere in
the world. Furthermore, Intranet is a set of content shared by a group within a
single organization and the Extranet is a set of content shared by a group, but
one that crosses enterprise boundaries as shown in the image below.
All these three tools (the Internet and an Intranet
and Extranet) share the underlying technology. All have an infrastructure based
on standards and technologies that support the sharing of common resources. However,
there is important be aware of the differences between these three
technological mechanisms, in regard to the use of each one of them. So as you
can see in the table below.

Now, let me conclude the aim of these three tools is
in the ability to share content and resources. So, the benefits of these
technological tools well-implemented include the growth of good communication
and better social and commercial relations.
